Universal Announces A New 'puss In Boots' Family Coaster For Singapore

Site of Puss In Boots Universal announces a new 'Puss in Boots' family coaster for Singapore Written by Robert Niles Published: July 29, 2014 at 10:44 AM Universal Studios Singapore has announced officially the new family suspended coaster that we told you about earlier this month . The new coaster under construction. Photo courtesy Resorts World Sentosa. Under construction in the Shrek-themed "Far, Far Away" land, Puss In Boots' Giant Journey will take visitors on a "a wild goose chase with Puss and his accomplice, Kitty Soft Paws," according to the park's press release. The ride is expected to open by the end of the year, though the park has not yet confirmed a specific opening date. In addition, Universal Studios Singapore in September will debut a live show featuring Puss in Boots and Kitty Soft Paws in Far, Far Away. The Dance for the Magic Beans will feature a "dance off" between the two Dreamworks Animation characters, followed by a meet-and-greet. The two new attractions expand the presence of Dreamworks Animation characters in the park, which features two entire lands devoted to the studios' IP: Far, Far Away and Madagascar. SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment now owns the theme park rights to the Madagascar characters in the United States , while Universal retains the park rights to the Shrek family of characters at all of its parks worldwide. Readers' Opinions From Russell Meyer on July 29, 2014 at 11:25 AM I'm not a fan of the "family inverted" coasters. For one, they are notorious slow loaders usually only capable of single-train operation. Secondly, the height requirement is usually 48", which is typically tall enough for many adult coasters (most full-sized inverts have a 52" height requirement), so there's really no point to these little coasters since they serve such a small niche of the guests in the park. Finally, the rides are not all that exciting or dramatically different from standard kiddie coasters that allow a much larger range of guests to ride. From 220.255.1.136 on July 29, 2014 at 10:09 PM Is this new 'Puss in Boots' coaster an inverted one? And it kind of looks like the zamperla volare...what do you think? From Russell Meyer on July 30, 2014 at 10:56 AM It is listed on rcdb as a family inverted coaster from Zamperla (http://rcdb.com/12252.htm). The photo presented here does really show much, but it's pretty clearly an inverted or suspended (track above riders) coaster of some type. Taking a closer look at the track, it's probably not a single-train style family invert like Flying Ace Aerial main page Chase at many Cedar Fair parks (Vekomas). The tight turns shown in the photo seem to indicate small trains, perhaps just one or two rows of riders, which still won't provide any more capacity than a single, long train seen on my family inverts. Film Industry Workers Worry About Future Of Local Jobs | Starnewsonline.com

After Lee Henderson clocks out of his final shift on the second season of CBS' "Under the Dome" Thursday, he's heading to Disney World with his wife and kids. But when he returns home from the Happiest Place on Earth, Henderson is concerned the local film industry won't be in the same shape as he left it. Following Tuesday's announcement that the orlando universal studios tickets and hotel packages General Assembly budget compromise crafted over the weekend includes $10 million for the state's film incentive program, many in the industry are uncertain about how the small appropriation will sustain the production business or foster new business in the future. "They might as well have not done anything and saved their money," said Henderson, who is a leadman for the set decoration department. "When the incentive money could run out after two productions, there is no incentive for a film or show to come here." For Henderson's household, it's been a week of ups and downs. His wife, Patricia, who teaches English as a second language at Hoggard High School, will see her first raise in seven years thanks to the General Assembly's budget compromise, which included a 7-percent pay raise for public educators. He calls the news the sole "bright spot" of the week as he questions whether he will have to switch careers if the small incentive programs fails to attract projects after the current program expires at year's end. Unlike many film crew members, Henderson won't be packing up and moving immediately after the current incentive sunsets at year's end. His wife, currently in her 18th year of teaching, still has two years left of working here in her retirement plan before she can move. Having previously traveled for film work in years past, Henderson, said that isn't an option at this point in his life.

Myerstown man with worsening brain disorder wants to see fireworks in Disney - Lebanon Daily News

Sal Gambino, a 23-year-old Myerstown man who suffers from leukodystrophy, a degenerative brain disease, puts together a package at his job at Ephrata Area There is no cure. The condition has worsened for Gambino, Guthrie said. He suffers from more orthopedic issues and will likely be wheelchair bound. His doctor estimates Gambino may have one year to live, but it's hard to know for sure how much time her son has left, she said. So, Guthrie says she wants to make his biggest wish come true: To see the fireworks at Disney World. "I'm really, really trying if it's the last thing I do to make Sal's wish come true," she said. Gambino was a Make-A-Wish child and did get to go to Disney in the past but got too sick on the trip to do much, including the parade and seeing fireworks. A neighbor, who wants to remain anonymous, she said, started a fundraiser called "Sal's Pals" in May to help raise $1,000 for the trip. Her co-workers at Country Meadows contributed money, and proceeds from Beanie Baby sales at Myerstown Farmers Market are going toward the cause. When Jen Shade, a radio DJ at 105.7 the X met Gambino, she started a fundraiser as well that raised a couple hundred dollars.

The show was a spin-off from The Avengers and has also added Agent Carter recently, which will be screened on the U.S network, ABC. Agent Carter will have Hayley Atwell who will replay her role from Captain America. Though Agents of SHIELD faced many hurdles in the first season, Marvel intends to build on this new development as it recently penned an agreement with Netflix, Inc. The Best of Walt Disney World - Disney's Animal Kingdom (That's My Opinion) by Steve Russo

This opportunity for children to climb and dig is not for me but my grandsons love it and could probably spend a day there. Top Three DAK Restaurants By know you know the drill selecting favorite restaurants is difficult because our tastes are so varied and yadda, yadda, yadda. I will offer another quirk of mine in that I rarely visit table service restaurants for lunch theyre usually for dinner only. Because Disneys Animal Kingdom typically closes earlier in the day, I never seem to have dinner there so my experience with table service here is limited. Table Service Tusker House Restaurant Calling the Tusker House table service is a stretch because its really a buffet but a very good one. Its a character meal for breakfast and lunch (not dinner) and features an African-flavored menu. Theres traditional fare available as well but the more hotel and ticket packages for disney world adventurous palates will be pleased. Yak and Yeti Restaurant Theres also a counter service component here and both restaurants offer a Pan-Asian themed menu. Rainforest Cafe I enjoy the Rainforest Cafe, both here in Disneys Animal Kingdom and at Downtown Disney but I enjoy it more for breakfast. At lunch and dinner, the place seems to get much noisier and, to be honest, while theres no reason to hate the food, theres also no reason for a heavy recommendation either.

First Look At New Haunted Mansion Merchandise Appearing This Fall At Disney Parks

hmmmmm5378931At the beginning of June, I shared with you a first look at artwork created for a whole new line of Haunted Mansion authentic merchandise coming this fall to Disney Parks . Today, I?m beyond excited to give you a look at actual items we?ve created using that artwork. The toughest part for me was selecting which of the more than 100 new items to showcase in this story. Here is a look at some of my favorite things. I?ll start with apparel which will include both long and short-sleeved options for women, men and children. I think my favorite new shirts are the ones that resemble the Cast Member costumes from the attraction. Some of the shirts will also include a glow-in-the-dark element. For accessories, Guests will soon find several new jewelry items including awesome bat stanchion earrings. I particularly like the women?s shoes that use the infamous purple wallpaper pattern from the attraction. go That wallpaper pattern will also be used on three new Dooney & Bourke items. You may recall the first Dooney & Bourke handbag we released last fall as seen in this story . That original handbag will return with the three new items this fall. All the new items will have a purple colored liner not red like the first incarnation. The home décor team will add to their assortment of amazing things I first shared in February 2013 . The original nine items were incredibly detailed and these new items follow in that tradition. This fall, Guests will find new drinkware, dinnerware (plates, bowls, wine glasses), figurines, bookends, cloth napkins, tablemats, and much more. I love the beautiful urn, and the bat stanchion ice cube tray will soon be making ice cubes in my freezer at home. Look for these items in select locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts in the coming months. Select items will also be carried on our Disney Parks online store . Which items do you want to follow you home? Please share in the comments below. 4-year-old Goes To Disney Thanks To Make-a-wish Foundation

Source: Clare Huddleston/WBRC BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A four-year-old's dream is coming true thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Mason Greeson and his family left for Disney World on Monday morning. Two years ago Mason was diagnosed with Wilm's tumor, which is a form of kidney cancer. Mason is in remission now. Mason had no idea he was leaving for Disney World until he arrived at the airport and saw the Mickey and Minnie balloons. "He knew he was going to Disney but he didn't know when, we just said we're gonna get to go to Disney so he's still not sure. I don't think he fully gets disney world tickets with hotel package it like he knows we're going but I don't know if he understands all the hoopla people are taking his picture and he's like what's going on, 'I thought we were going on vacation,'" Mason's mom Kristin Greeson said. Greeson says Mason is looking forward to seeing Buzz Light Year and Woody from Toy Story. She says if Mason tells the characters "Andy's coming," they have to fall down and pretend to be toys. The Magic Of Disney Parks Storytelling: Splash Mountain At Disneyland Park

Jacqueline Bracamontes In my opinion, Splash Mountain at Disneyland park is the quintessential E-ticket attraction. There is something about plunging down Chick-A-Pin Hill that has made it my ?laughing place? for as long as I can remember. Yesterday was not only the 59th anniversary of Disneyland park, it also marked the 25th anniversary of this beloved attraction. Today, I?m positively thrilled to continue ? The Magic of Disney Parks Storytelling ? series with an article from Critter Tales, a newspaper created by the animals of Critter Country, about the story of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear. In honor of the anniversary, enjoy this excerpt by Jasper P. Woodchuck about the story behind my favorite attraction, Splash Mountain. Towering up and above everything hereabouts is Splash Mountain. Used to be that once upon a time, Splash Mountain was called Chick-A-Pin Hill ? Nowadays, Brer Rabbit?s been living in a briar patch, deep in the heart of Splash Mountain. And not so long ago, old Brer Rabbit took it into his head that if he?d just up and leave his prickly home in the briar patch, then he?d be able to leave all his troubles behind, as well. As soon as Brer Fox and Brer Bear got wind that Brer Rabbit was leaving his briar patch and setting out for an adventure, they decided to trap and catch him. Luckily for Brer Rabbit, he was able to trick Brer Bear into springing Brer Fox?s hastily devised rabbit trap. This made Brer Fox so furious that Brer Rabbit decided to play another trick on the two, and he began to tell them about a secret ?laughing place? that only he knew about. Sure enough, Brer Bear and Brer Fox followed that rabbit right to the foot of a twin oak tree ? But instead of finding a laughing place, all Brer Bear found was honeybees. Suddenly, the rotted old tree gave way with a snap and pitched Brer Fox and Brer Bear into a darkened, water-filled cavern, buzzing with hundreds of angry bees. Brer Rabbit laughed and laughed at the prank he?d played on the two scoundrels. Unfortunately for Brer Rabbit, however, he tended to laugh just a little too long at his own joke and before he knew what was happening, Brer Fox captured that hapless hare. Brer Rabbit was dragged by the ears up to the top of Chick-A-Pin Hill, where Brer Fox?s lair was hidden in a hollowed log that jutted out over the mighty Splash Mountain waterfall. Brer Fox threatened to skin Brer Rabbit, and then to roast and eat him. But thinking quickly, Brer Rabbit told Brer Fox to go ahead and do anything with him he wanted, so long as he didn?t throw him over the waterfall into the Briar Patch. Slow-wittted Brer Bear liked the idea and decided that flinging Brer Rabbit into the briar patch was the best thing to be done. Brer Fox tried to prevent him, and in the struggle, all three went over the falls and into the briar patch. The briar patch is, of course, Brer Rabbit?s home sweet home. All the critters hereabout turned out to congratulate clever Brer Rabbit on having gotten away once again. And while Brer Fox and Brer Bear tried unsuccessfully to untangle themselves from the sharp, prickly briars, Brer Rabbit promised his friends that once and for all he had learned his lesson about leaving home, and that he is going to stay here forever and ever ? at least until the urge to go adventuring strikes him once again. Disney reaches tentative deal with unions for starting wage increase | News - Home

Jul 18, 2014, 12:37 PM ET Union officials say Walt Disney World has reached a tentative labor agreement with its largest union group that raises starting hourly pay from a little over $8 to $9 this year. Busch Gardens Tampa is opening an attraction, too, and it's coming to the park's new Pantopia land. It's not the long-delayed Falcon's Fury, though. The new attraction is Opening Night Critters , a live show featuring a cast of rescued domestic and exotic animals, playing in the Pantopia Theater (formerly the Timbuktu Theater, which housed several 4D shows over the years). Here's a preview, from the park: Busch Gardens' parent SeaWorld announced this week that it is switching to a new type of refillable cup at all its SeaWorld and Busch Gardens theme parks. The recyclable "PlantBottle" plastic in the cups replaces traditional petroleum-based resins with natural sugars found in plants. SeaWorld said that the switch "is expected to remove 35 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually -- the equivalent of saving more than 80 barrels of oil a year." Disneyland this week opened its new interactive experience, Legends of Frontierland: Gold Rush! , where park guests role-play a land war between the residents of Frontierland and nearby Rainbow Ridge. Designed to appeal to a generation whose idea of entertainment is defined more by multiplayer online video games than passively watching a screen, Legends of Frontierland is Walt Disney Imagineering's latest attempt at expanding the idea of what a theme park attraction can be. Here's an interesting analysis , and we will have more coverage of this massive multiplayer offline role-playing game in the weeks to come. A map of gameplay locations for Legends of Frontierland, from Disney Unfortunate news from Walt Disney World: Pirates of the Caribbean claimed another couple of fingertips this week, as a British tourist was injured when he was holding on to the outside of the boat. The man lost the tips of his ring and pinky fingers. This is why they tell you to "keep your hands and arms inside the boat at all times," everyone. On Pirates, as well as Small World and many other boat rides, the boats are contained on the course by underwater metal flume walls on either side of the boats. Horizontal wheels underneath the boats ride along those flume walls and if your fingers or anything else comes between the boat and the flume wall, well, you're going to lose them. This isn't "magic," it's mechanics. Please, please, please, listen to and follow the safety rules , everyone. No one wants anyone to get hurt. We wish this tourist the best possible recovery. Finally, construction of a proposed Paramount theme park outside London could begin as early as 2016 for a summer 2019 opening, according to a public presentation by the park's backers this past week. The £2 billion project would include a Paramount theme park, a water park, movie theaters, shops, sporting facilities and 5,000 hotel rooms on a site on the Swanscombe Peninsula, on the Thames River east of London. Full details on the proposal are due in October, and the project still needs public money for substantial local infrastructure development, as well as overall government approval, to go forward. Readers' Opinions From Robert Niles on July 12, 2014 at 10:36 AM By the way, if I read one more article trying to diminish Diagon Alley by claiming it is " one ride and seven shops ," I'm going to scream. (By the way, that's not the only error in the linked article.) More accurate reporting might describe Universal's Diagon Alley expansion instead as three rides (Gringotts, the Hogwarts Express from Kings Cross to Hogsmeade, and the Hogwarts Express from Hogsmeade to Kings Cross), four shows (Tales of Beedle the Bard, Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees, the Ollivander's show, and the "Turtle Talk"-style Gringotts Money Exchange), and three places to eat and drink (The Leaky Cauldron, Florean Fortescue's, and the Hopping Pot beverage bar), plus those seven shops. And people wonder why newspapers are dying. As a former newspaper employee, I see much more accurate reporting from independent online publications than I see from most newspapers, especially from general assignment reporters. It pays to actually know a beat. From James Rao on July 12, 2014 at 11:31 AM I think the "one ride" issue for DA stems from the fact that Gringotts is the attraction receiving most, if not all, the buzz, and it is the only attraction experiencing significant waits. Combine those six hour waits with all the tweets and posts about operations issues, downtime, and non-functioning effects and it cheap disney world packages leads to misinformation. Since everyone is talking about the Gringotts issues, uninformed mainstream news people think it is the only ride. And since it's "just an amusement park" who cares about doing that extra little bit of research to get the facts? Just one more reason to get your theme park news from TPI instead of the mainstream media! So, when did Paramount decide to get back in the theme park business? You think they will learn from their past failures and emerge as a major player? Their parks had some great ideas, they just didn't maintain them. Will be an interesting story to follow... From 173.170.103.20 on July 12, 2014 at 12:15 PM This is in answer to James Rao's question: "when did Paramount decide to get back in the theme park business?" The short answer is: they didn't. Paramount's intellectual property is being licensed by the developers of the proposed London theme park, London Resort Company Holdings. This is much like the defunct Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C., was not a development of the Seminole Indian tribe, owners of the Hard Rock brand, but a licensed property. I'm pretty sure Robert can correct this, but I think Paramount owner Viacom intends to stay out of the theme park business. Brian From Rod Whitenack on July 12, 2014 at 1:52 PM I, for one, think we all will be done a great disservice when traditional print media and newspapers ultimately cease to exist. In the meantime, I hope that schools and higher learning institutions start teaching courses and offering certifiable degrees in online journalism because it has been quickly taken over by the loudest, least trained writers with no real background or discipline other than their own innate and unshakable confidence in themselves. However, due to the fact that most journalists are now earning less than full time McDonald's employees, the slide in quality and caring was bound to happen. The difference between a website like TPI and a major newspaper is that TPI is written and edited by folks who truly love and know the theme park business while a newspaper article on a theme park is likely written by a 20-something who is being paid by the word and needs to turn in his story as quickly as possible and get on to the next one if he wants to pay the rent and eat this month. From James Rao on July 12, 2014 at 2:20 PM Thanks for the clarification, Brian. So does the park have access to all Paramount films... I mean, can they make an Indiana Jones ride since Paramount distributed Raiders of the Lost Ark? From 173.170.103.20 on July 12, 2014 at 4:33 PM James Rao wrote: "So does the park have access to all Paramount films... I mean, can they make an Indiana Jones ride since Paramount distributed Raiders of the Lost Ark?" Absolutely, as long as Disney (who owns the Indiana Jones IP) agrees to the license. As far as the other Paramount properties, it's up to the terms of the license agreement. Robert's written about this topic fairly extensively. Brian From 173.170.103.20 on July 12, 2014 at 4:40 PM Rod Whitenack wrote: "I, for one, think we all will be done a great disservice when traditional print media and newspapers ultimately cease to exist." Thanks for the nice compliment. As a veteran print journalist, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I'll take one exception, though: we aren't paid by the word. Most fulltime newspaper reporters and editors earn a salary. Although inexperienced ones are indeed paid poorly initially, experience changes this quite nicely. Brian From James Rao on July 12, 2014 at 6:32 PM ^"Absolutely, as long as Disney (who owns the Indiana Jones IP) agrees to the license." So, the answer is no, since Disney isn't about to part with their $4B baby. ;) From 65.87.190.248 on July 12, 2014 at 8:46 PM So, that will be 3 Star Trek rides plan outside the U.S. One in Spain, another for the Red Sea, and now UK. I wonder what timeline they will use. Either the new movies or old series. Just to recap CBS & Paramount are separated, so only Paramount can use the movies & CBS can license the TV shows. I ask a former Star Trek insider about the UK Trek ship mode to see if they using TV or movies. Seems like they keeping it vague either waiting for Spain to be builted there's to copy or going with TV version. Still, why can there be plans for Star Trek here most likely with Universal I hope. And don't give me any guff that Trek is too old now. Same can be said of Indiana Jones. There's no new movies, but they made Billions. Same as Trek, it's made Billions but there's a 50th coming and like to see this either announce for UK and America Trek ride. Officials Still Don't Know How Man Lost Fingers To 'pirates.'

WKMG Local 6 in Orlando reports the man lost the tips of his ring and pinky fingers on his right hand. Park officials still dont know how the man was hurt, and the ride was shut down for the rest of the day Thursday while an investigation took place. The ride has since reopened after officials found no fault with the ride itself. The injured man has yet to come forward with an explanation of what happened and officials are left to speculate on how the bizarre injury occurred. This is not the first time that a guest has been injured on a Disney park ride. As The Inquisitr reported on Saturday, there have been quite a few accidents on Disney rides, some of which resulted in death . Two of those deaths occurred on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, the last in August, 2009 when a park performer and actor slipped and fell during a staged sword fight and later died from his injuries. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride is a mainstay in the Adventureland area of Disney World. The ride originally opened in March of 1967 at Disneyland in California, and was replicated in the Orlando theme park in 1973 . It is a slow-moving, water-based ride where cars of park guests glide along a track watching animatronic characters sing and dance and live the pirate life. The characters are modeled after pirates, british sailors, wenches, and even animals, and as the ride goes on, the themes get darker and more macabre as the pirates turn into ghouls.

New Merchandise On The Horizon For Fall 2014 At Disney Parks

othtra443244 One of my favorite articles to write for the Disney Parks Blog gives readers a glimpse into future merchandise development (who wouldn?t want to travel through time?). Introduced in early 2012 , these semi-regular stories are filled with things that make me beyond happy. Here is a look at some of my favorites coming to Disney Parks later this year. I still remember the day that Aaron Babcock, merchandiser for home and decorative goods, showed me the two metal trays pictured above. I did a double take as I thought they were vintage finds from some antique shop. Aaron is the developer behind those amazing items found in Disney Centerpiece at the Marketplace Co-Op in Downtown Disney Marketplace in Florida. He stepped up his game with these trays that will be placed next to my vintage EPCOT Center trays from the early 1980s. Look for them this fall at the respective Resort destinations in California and Florida . I think I found the next two shirts that I will be getting for my fiancée and me. They were inspired by the popular ?I?ll Be Your? Mickey and Minnie companion T-shirts released in 2012 . The shirts are coming this October to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. I fell out of my chair when I saw the new Vinylmation ? Eachz set coming this fall featuring Mabel from the hit Disney XD show ?Gravity Falls.? I wasn?t surprised to learn that Thomas Scott was the Disney Design Group artist behind these limited edition figures. Thomas, who once dressed up as the character Uncle Stan for Halloween, recommended I watch the show. I?m now hooked and can?t wait for season two, which debuts on Disney Channel on August 1 at 9:00 p.m. Presented in a mystery box (how fitting), the figure on the left will be more common to find (edition size 1,350), while the figure on the right is more rare (edition size 150). Finally, I spotted these adorable new Disney Villains baby plush. Maleficent will be joined by baby Cruella de Vil this November, while Ursula will be released early next year. Which things are you most excited to see? Please share in the comments below. New Merchandise on the Horizon for Fall 2014 at Disney Parks by Steven Miller: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog

The World Cup?s Biggest Winners: Us Media Giants

Tourist loses tips of two fingers on Disney World ride - WDRB 41 Louisville News

In dollars and cents, the biggest winners are media companiesboth traditional and social. The World Cup has broken all sorts of ratings records for ESPN, which will boost its ad revenue at a usually slow time of the year. That means Disney's sports behemoth has more than gotten its money's worth from the $100 million it paid for rights to the tournament. Though we won't see the impact of the highly rated soccer matches in Disney's next earnings report, coming on Aug. 8, CEO Bob Iger may provide some color on just how much of a boost the better-than-expected results of the tournament will provide to the company's bottom line. The big question now, whether the next two World Cups will provide as good a return on investment for Fox . Rupert Murdoch's network paid $425 million for the next two tournaments. It's possible that this year's exciting matches have created a slew of new devoted soccer fans, especially in the U.S. But on the downside, the 2018 and 2022 matches won't have the advantage of such a convenient time zone for U.S. viewersthey're in Russia and then Qatar.

Harry Potter World In Orlando Opens To Seven-hour Waits - Bloomberg

Walt Disney World: Five Things You Didn?t Know

Later attendees were given passes stamped with times when they could return to enter the attraction. Waits for the Escape From Gringotts roller coaster reached as long as 450 minutes, Schroder said. He declined to specify the number of guests. Robb Alvey, editor of ThemeParkReview.com , said he arrived at the park at 7:30 a.m. and waited two hours to ride Gringotts, joining a faster-moving, single-rider line that put solo guests into empty seats. I cannot imagine that this wont be huge for Universal, he said. The ride shut down briefly because of what appeared to be technical difficulties, not unusual for opening day, he said. Photos posted on Twitter.com and websites such as Leakynews.com showed thousands of visitors queued up before sunrise. The new attraction is the latest sign of escalation in Orlando theme-park investments including a new penguin-theme ride at SeaWorld last year and a Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Walt Disney Co.s Magic Kingdom this year.
